I mean, personally I think your tricoder looks pretty great, but if you're thinking of making a smoother one.. as an ex-Homestuck cosplayer who had horns, straight-up clay might be the way to go. Even if you use air-dry clay and just use styrofoam as a base. There's like a billion Homestuck horn making tutorials out there that might be useful to you, with a million different techniques (I mean, I think 3D printing is pretty extra, but it's SO COOL so.)
i was actually thinking about trying to make one out of air dry clay just to see how it would come out, because i figured oven bake clay wouldn’t bake all the way through and also i would need to buy A LOT of it… but yeah i’ll definitely check out a tutorial just to see how to make it really smooth and stuff!
my only concern about using a styrofoam base and then going over it with clay is that i’d be afraid the clay might crack??? but who knows! maybe i can slap on a layer of over the tricorder i have now and just repaint it!
