Academy students are required to read up on every one of Jim Kirk’s missions. Janeway or Sisko or Picard or all three probably had his photo above their desk in high school encouraging them to study harder. Whole generations of Starship captains research this man’s logs for inspiration, for guidance, for understanding. For enduring nuggets of wisdom, like NO BLAH BLAH BLAH.
And, imagine it, Leonard McCoy, crotchety as sin, too damn stubborn to die, watching these cadets tromp through the Academy with stars in their eyes when they walk about JIm Kirk, and all he can hear is ‘bup bup bup’
He’d laugh, cry, and then laugh some more, because damn it, Jim, you should see these kids. They make Chekov look jaded.
