New Star Trek spec script idea: an alien race who have no long term memories, and only collectively and individually recall events through story and writing
Like, the way my brain sees this is that they disassociate immediately from their memories and consider their lives as a story in which they are a character. They are still aware of their free will and sentience but they just don’t/can’t see their past as a part of them. Memories become simply words, the story they know happened but don’t feel like happened to them.
